More Porcelain Veneer Questions
San Diego, California
Who is a candidate for Porcelain Veneers?
People who have stained, chipped, or slightly crooked, but otherwise healthy teeth and gums.
Will people be able to see that I've had veneers put on my teeth?
People will obviously notice your whiter smile, but they will not think "veneer." Dr. Loye will place the porcelain veneers so they look completely natural. They have a similar luster to tooth enamel and minor variations in color that make them seem completely like natural teeth.
What is the difference between porcelain veneers and Lumineers?
Lumineers are a variation on the porcelain veneers concept. Essentially, Lumineers are even thinner versions of porcelain veneers made with the highest grade of materials that are suitable for some people. Contact us to learn more about the specific differences.
When I think "porcelain," I think fragile. Does this mean my veneers will break?
A porcelain is a ceramic and modern ceramics are highly engineered materials. They are used to make the space shuttle's heat-resistant tiles, and even high-impact applications like golf clubs and hammers. In fact, the A-1 Abrams tank and other advanced tanks around the world use ceramic armor and fire ceramic armor-piercing shells.
On the other hand, porcelain veneers are designed so that they will not damage surrounding teeth, and therefore they are not only aesthetically similar to tooth enamel, but have similar physical properties. Anything that can break a natural tooth will break your veneers.
