Porcelain Veneers Process

Smile Makeover Specialist
San Diego, California

The process of placing porcelain veneers requires precision, skill and a certain amount of artistic talent on the part of the cosmetic dentist. Dr. James Loye of San Diego, California is a skilled and qualified cosmetic dentist who can help you to achieve the smile you have always wanted.

The Process

Generally, having porcelain veneers attached to your teeth takes three office visits. During your first visit, you and your dentist will discuss plans for your new smile. You will voice your desires and expectations and your cosmetic dentist will explain the procedure and any recommendations to you.

Also during the first visit, your cosmetic dentist will determine the following attributes your veneers should possess:

  • Size
  • Shape
  • Type of veneer
  • Desired aesthetics you are seeking

During the second visit, your teeth will be prepared by removing a small amount of the enamel in order to accommodate your new porcelain veneers. An impression of your prepared teeth is made, then sent to a dental laboratory where your porcelain veneers will be manufactured. Temporary veneers are placed in order to protect your teeth while you await the creation of your permanent veneers.

Your final visit will be scheduled when your permanent veneers are ready. This is the last step in the transformation of your smile. Once checked for proper fit, your veneers are bonded to the front of your natural teeth.

The process of placing your porcelain veneers is the first critical step in re-designing a smile you can be proud to show off. No longer will you have to cover your mouth or avoid smiling to hide misshapen, discolored or otherwise deformed teeth. You can open wide and show off your new, natural looking veneers. For the first time in your life, imagine knowing that your own smile can not only fill you with a sense of pride, but can help to brighten someone else's day.

Once you leave your cosmetic dentist's office the only worry you have is making sure you employ good aftercare practices for your new porcelain veneers. They will last for many years with the proper care. This consists of good regular oral hygiene and avoiding tooth grinding and chewing very hard foods.

If you or someone you love has suffered with an embarrassing mouthful of teeth, don't suffer any longer. To learn more about the porcelain veneers process, please contact Dr. James Loye at Carmel Creek Dental in San Diego, California today.
